WIN Founder Lana Hempsall has written in CapX that the Chancellor’s Spending Review ignored the biggest and fastest-growing area of public expenditure: welfare, now heading towards almost £380 billion by the end of the decade. She argues that despite ministers warning that the current system is unsustainable and increasingly rewards inactivity over aspiration, the Review failed to signal any serious plan to control soaring disability and incapacity costs or refocus support on those with the greatest need. Lana concludes that without bold, structural reform, the welfare system will continue to expand unchecked, leaving the most vulnerable worse off and future governments facing even greater financial and social burdens.
