WIN Founder Lana Hempsall has written in Onward UK’s blog that with disability and incapacity spending still projected to hit nearly £100 billion, Motability must be the government’s next area of welfare reform. She argues that the scheme has expanded far beyond its original purpose, now providing 815,000 largely unadapted vehicles, including luxury and electric models, to many people who do not need a subsidised car, all at significant cost to taxpayers. Lana concludes that eligibility must be tightened so mobility support is reserved for those with no alternative, ensuring help goes to people with severe physical disabilities rather than continuing a gold-plated, unsustainable system.
